So, I made it to Oneida. I rode by the Oneida Community Mansion and looked around the town. Tomorrow, I will take the tour and be on my way. So, in a way today is a rest day.

I found the Oneida books that I have been looking for for about 2 weeks. I have been reading most of the morning. I found a great book that is a reproduction of a diary of a community member from 1876 with commentary. The member, a man, fell in love with another member. Personal and community strife followed. They ultimatly left the community. Very interesting.

Over all Oneida is a very pleasent town. There are huge, wonderful, brick houses everywhere. It is a town that seems like it has been around forever and will last forever too.

Once I am back in the US, I will have about 488 miles left in the trip. I really can’t beleive the end is so close.

I am just going to take it easy and enjoy the last few days of the ride.

Yesterday I rode 64 miles. It rained for most of the morning, but after that it was a very pleasant day for a bike ride. I passed through Ocean Spray’s CO-OP farms and saw lots of cranberry fields. Most of the day was spent in wetlands. I took some cool panoramas and pictures of water lilies.

A strange transformation has occurred in my mind. I am now a cyclist. I ride the bike and it is easy now. When I started the trip, I was unsure I would be able to complete it. Now, I have no doubt. It is only a matter of time.

Now, I am looking for the next challenge. I have been watching Le Tour de France. I am getting some ideas. I am now in good shape. Funny how riding a bike packed with 75 or so pounds of gear for 8 to 10 hrs a day can do that. Anyway, in today’s stage the riders were averaging about 25 miles per hour. Good pace. On my 165 mile day I had an average of 16.7 miles per hour.
